Monday, July 6th, 2009Lenore Asbury (American, 1866-1933) was one of Rookwood’s premier artists from 1895 thru the early 1900’s.
This is an example of Rookwood’s Reverse RP Impressed Logo and the Roman Number V for the year of manufacture, 1905. There is also the number 951E for the Shape Number and the letter E for the Size. The letter W incised under this number indicates that the vase is an Iris Glazed Vase. The artist initials “L.A.” stand for Lenore Asbury.
Old Rookwood mark from 1882 - Artist ARV Albert Robert Valentine
Sunday, July 5th, 2009This is an example of the 1882 mark, and artist ARV Albert Robert Valentine’s mark.
This is a Rookwood stamp and mold used for marking the bottoms of vases before firing. From the Albert Valentine estate.
1). A plaster mold for the impressed anchor mark used in the early 1880’s. Diameter is 1.25″
2). A bisque fired white clay stamp for the rare Eastern Avenue location used for a short time in 1882. Height 1.75″

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009Sara Sax is among Rookwood’s most famous decorators. Sax worked at Rookwood from 1896 - 1931. She loved Peacocks and peacock feathers, and these are often seen on her pieces. She is known for her French Red vases, but she decorated most of the Rookwood glaze lines.

Rookwood Artist Signature “FR” Frederick Rothenbusch
Saturday, April 18th, 2009Frederick Rothenbusch was an artist at Rookwood in the early 1900’s. He created many lovely Vellum vases. This Rookwood Velum vase is signed “FR” - this is Frederick Rothenbusch’s signature. The Rookwood logo and Roman Numerals XII (1912), the letter V (for vellum), the artist’s signature/cipher, FR (Frederick Rothenbusch), and the production line number 1660, size D.
Rookwood Artist Signature “ED” Edward Diers
Tuesday, April 14th, 2009Edward Diers was an artist at Rookwood in the early 1900’s. He created many lovely Vellum vases. This Rookwood Velum vase is signed “ED” - this is Edward Diers’ signature. The Rookwood logo and Roman Numeral X dates the vase at 1910. The letter V stands for Vellum. The production line number is 1356 and the size is D.
