The "tusks" are actually representation of the two horns of the bison, and the hobstar is the face of the bison; however, in the 1996 reproduction Libbey catalog page 6 (the American Cut Glass Association & Toledo Museum of Art), the center hobstar is much smaller that that in the photographed item. This pattern was to cut by W. Anderson at Libbey glass to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus' landing in America (1892) at the World's Fair scheduled to open in Chicago in 1892 . Other patterns included Isabella. Due to the challenges in Chicago and the desire to be the first World's fair using electricity, the fair opened in 1893.
