Libbey Cut Glass Punch Bowl - Columbia Pattern

This Libbey Columbia pattern punch bowl sold for $13,000 in January 2010. It measures 12 inches in diameter and stands 6-5/8 inches in height. It is cut on a thick sparkling clear blank and weighs 14 pounds. The Columbia pattern was designed by William Anderson and patented for Libbey on February 14. 1893. It was exhibited at the World Fair Columbian Exposition in Chicago that same year. Peterson, on page 120 of “Encyclopedia of American Cut and Engraved Glass , Volume I “, shows 2 pieces of Columbia cut glass and states ” It is one of the loveliest and best conceived patterns, using clear “tusks” as one of the motifs. So little of it is available that the acquisition of a single piece is a difficult objective”.

Just thought I’d inform you that this piece is not in Columbia by Libbey, but rather a major varition - probably not by Libbey at all.
