Sea Captain figurine from the Bovey Pottery

Sea Captain figurine from the Bovey Pottery in Devon. One of the very collectable series of nineteen ‘Our Gang’ figurines manufactured by the Bovey Pottery in the 1940’s and 1950’s. This is an excellent example of a rare character. The figure is 195mm high and 80mm across the shoulders. It sold for $1,233 in January 2010.

Theodore Deck aesthetic French pottery vase 10″ tall

This French pottery aesthetic period vase by the master ceramiste Theodore Deck sold for $1,333 in January 2010. This vase is an extremely well designed piece very much in the Japanese taste. It has a diamond shaped cross section shape. The decoration is very intricate and the colours are vivid. This piece measures 10.25″ tall and is marked H DECK.

Early American Stoneware Pottery Jug with 2 Color Decoration

This antique stoneware pottery jug is decorated with hand incised lines, and two colors of glaze. There is no maker’s mark on this jug. This jug measures 11 inches high by 7 1/2 inches wide. It sold for $1,634.33 in January 2010.

Wedgwood Basalt Encaustic Vase c. 1800

The Wedgwood vase stands 9¾” tall and is 5½” in diameter at its widest point. The vase dates from between 1800 and 1810. The encaustic decoration of three classical figures is complete. The vase is marked with an impressed “WEDGWOOD”, moustache marks, the letter ”J”. and incised with the number “439”. The vase sold for $1,850 in January 2010.

1952 Pablo Picasso decorated Madoura ceramic bowl

1952 Picasso decorated Madoura ceramic bowl. This piece is called bird under sun and depicts a bird setting on a branch with the sun overhead. This is one of a series of 6 ceramics Picasso had made at this time. The pieces were authorized reproductions made by Madoura with 500 copies produced. This bowl measures 6 ¼” in diameter and is 1 ¾” high. The back in incised with Edition Picasso, Madoura.

It sold for $1,975 in January 2010.

Susan Frackelton Arts Crafts Pottery Pitcher

Signed Susan Frackelton ( 1848 - 1932) Grape encrusted stoneware pitcher circa 1900, with a beautiful flowing blue glaze which is made in her style. Pitcher is decorated with two bunches of applied grape clusters ( larger than a regular size marble - (see image) with hand carved leaf decoration and incised curling vines are on the body of the pitcher. Signed with an incised interlocking initials SF in blue glaze. Height including handle is 10 1/2″. Height to rim of pitcher 8 3/4″.

This pitcher had a professional repair and sold for $2000 in January 2010.

Brown Arequipa Pottery Vase sells for $2,247

Arequipa Pottery in Marin County California was open only 7 years, 1911-1918. The first three years were under the tutelage of the famous potter, Fredrick Rhead, of Rhead Pottery Santa Barbara, the creator of Fiesta Ware. This piece dates from the post-Fredrick Rhead period, the second production period under the direction of Alfred Salon, c. 1913-1915. The vase is hand-thrown and the floral decoration is hand-carved on the piece. The glaze is a speckled, egg-shell brown and tan. On the bottom you can see that the material the vase is made from is local, red, California clay. The bottom is impressed Arequipa California, with the Arequipa oak tree and vase logo, marked #635, 16, and the artist’s initials GL and measures 4.25 inches high, 6 inches wide.

This vase sold for $2,247 in January 2010.
